How to set up multistreaming | Multistream pre-recorded videos to multiple platforms simultaneously

To start multistreaming with Upstream, go to your Multistream Settings & add the RTMP keys for multiple platforms (Twitch, Kick, Rumble...) you want to live stream to. On Upstream, you can stream to 10 streaming platforms for free with any stream slot / paid plan.

What is multistreaming / multicasting?

Multistreaming is the process of broadcasting the same live stream (same content) to multiple platforms simultaneously, such as Twitch, YouTube, Kick, TikTok, or Facebook Live. Instead of choosing just one platform, this allows you to reach audiences across many streaming platforms at the same time, with a single source - your streaming software.
Multistreaming helps grow your brand or community, as viewers tend to have platform preferences - some might only use YouTube, while others stick to TikTok or Kick. By going live on all of them at once, you increase your visibility, engagement, and chances of being discovered by new audiences who wouldn’t otherwise see your content. Expand your reach and your audience and start multistreaming!
Let us show you how easy it is to set up a multistream with Upstream - our 24/7 streaming solution.

How to start multistreaming to multiple platforms simultaneously

1. Set up your Primary livestream

To set up multistreaming from Upstream to multiple platforms, you will first need one Primary stream set up.

If you haven’t created a stream yet - click on the Create New 24/7 Stream button to create a new one.

Make sure to set up your primary stream first!

2. Go to the Stream Settings and Add a new stream in the Multistreaming options

In your stream setting you will find the Multistreaming options, where you have the ability to multistream and go live on 10 streaming platforms simultaneously.

Click on "+Add your first Multistream"

Do not re-add your primary stream here. Your primary stream is already set up above in your Stream Settings. If your primary stream is to streaming to YouTube, do not add YouTube to the multistreaming feature. Only add additional destinations to the Multistream box.

Set up your multistream in the stream settings

3. Enter the RTMP key from Twitch, Kick, Rumble or any Custom RTMP destinations

Choose from one of the popular streaming platforms in the dropdown menu - Twitch, YouTube, Kick, Rumble or if your platform is not there, choose Custom RTMP.
Copy the stream key from your platform of choice (and Stream URL for some platforms)
Paste it into the RTMP Key field in the Upstream Multistream Settings
Repeat the process for all the platforms you want to stream live to (+Add Stream)

Add the RTMP keys of all your multistream destinations / platforms

4. Adjust the bitrate for multistreaming

All streaming platforms have different bitrate recommendations - you will need to find a single one that suits all of them.

✅ Try setting your bitrate to 4500 and adjust from there.

⚠️ Do not forget to save.

‼️ If your output bitrate is set too high, are risking stuttering, twitching or completely stopping your stream.

Adjust your bitrate in the Stream Settings

5. Start / your multistream

Go back to the dashboard / MyStreams page and check your Stream thumbnail - it should now be showing how many multistreaming destinations you added to your Primary stream, and how many are currently powered ON.
Click on the Start button, to power ON each of your Multistreams individually. You can choose which one to turn ON and which to leave OFF. If your primary stream is already streaming, you will see a POWER button - click it to reveal ON/OFF controls for each individual multistream!

⚠️ If your primary stream is already streaming, you will see a POWER button instead of the Start button. You can click on the power button to reveal multistream destination switches. When you turn on multistreaming destinations your Primary stream will be restarted. The content will play from the beginning of the playlist but do not worry - the stream will continue (it will not stop).

Don't forget to activate all the multistreams!

🎉 Congratulations! You are now multistreaming!

The numbers 3/3 indicate that all of the 3 added streams are active.

Some platforms like Facebook and Instagram do not support 24/7 live streaming and have limits to how many hours a stream can be live - please make sure your different destinations can receive 24/7 live streams without interruptions. If you broadcast to multiple platforms, we recommend using only destinations without time limits. If one platform (like Facebook) reaches the time limit (8 hours) this can affect your primary stream too. We do not recommend adding platforms that have time limits to 24/7 multistreams.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I stream live to multiple destinations with only 1 stream slot?

Yes! Each stream can have 10 free multi-streaming destinations attached!

What if I want to stream different content to different platforms**?**

If you want to stream different playlists and videos, multistreaming is not what you need. You will need to LINK subscribe to a plan that has enough stream slots for your different streams. While you can multistream the same content to 10 destinations simultaneously from one stream slot, you need multiple stream slots if you want to stream different videos/content.

Can I multistream live to multiple YouTube Channels at the same time?

Yes, you can, but it is not recommended for most cases! Nothing is stopping you to add another YouTube RTMP and to multistream to youtube - or a CUSTOM RTMP destination of your choice - on the same channel, or a different one. However, considering YouTube's duplicate content policy you might want to be sure that you really really want to stream the same content across two streams - on one or multiple YouTube channels.

Can I stream to any RTMP destination?

Yes! With the Upstream broadcasting software, you can reach multiple destinations that support RTMP. Use our Custom RTMP feature to enter your destination key and url.

Why is my multistream stuttering on Kick and Twitch?

It is very likely that your bitrate is set too high (or too low). Try setting your bitrate to 4500 - a mid-value which can be good for most streaming platforms. Start with 4500kbps and tweak from there.

One of my streams is not streaming, and others are streaming fine! What to do?

1) It is possible that you simply have not turned the stream ON. Go to your My Streams / Dashboard page and click on the Power button of your stream with added multistreams.
2) Perhaps your stream key is not correct. Please check all your stream keys to make sure they match the platforms RTMP key.
3) If you are multistreaming to Facebook Live, Instagram, or any other platform that has a maximum stream duration - perhaps the maximum duration was reached, and the stream ended? In that case you will have to set up a new stream.

Are there other solutions for multistreaming pre-recorded videos?

Definitely! you could set up your own OBS server - or indeed use any of our competetors' cloud-based multistreaming solutions. But we recommend you stick with our multistreaming service and our all-in-one multistreaming solution that comes free with every stream slot on Upstream, with a super simple user-friendly interface! So much easier than OBS!
