What is RTMP

An RTMP key (Real-Time Messaging Protocol key) is a unique code used to identify and connect your streaming software (like Upstream or OBS) to a live streaming platform (like YouTube, Facebook, or Twitch). It acts like a password to ensure your stream goes to the correct channel.

How to stream with a RTMP key:

To stream via RTMP, copy the key from your streaming platform into the Upstream Stream Settings:

  1. Go to your streaming platform’s live dashboard and set up a stream,
  2. Copy the Stream Key and/or RTMP Key,
  3. Paste it into Upstream, under “Settings" of your stream, on the main dashboard,
  4. Click “Start” either on the thumbnail of your stream (or at the top left of the screen, if you're in Edit screen), to go live.
